Comparative Study of Results of Electronic Axiography with Results of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) including Fast and Ultrafast 2D and 3D MR-Sequences.

In virtue of manifold causes of functional disorders in the masticatory system there are considerable diagnostic problems concering judgement and therapeutical timing. Apart from the clinical functional status electronic records of condylus movements are used just as the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) The MRI has turned out to be suitable specially as a diagnostic method for discopathies. Among 25 patients with malfunctions of their masticatory system the results of the clinical functional analysis and the electronic axiography were set against the MRI-results. The functional analysis took place according to the recomandations ot the DGZPW (German society for dental prosthodontics and material science), the electronic axiography took place with the " Scharnier-Achsen-Schreibgerät" (Hinge- axis- recording instrument) SAS controlled by the String-condylocomp according to Klett. The radiological presentation ot the TMJ was taken through the Magnetom SP 4000 (Siemens) with 1.5 T field strength. It apparead that, in vaque clincal and axiographic findings, a safe classification could be induced including fast and ultrafast 2D and 3D MR-sequences. In case of therapies with splints in therapeutic desired position of disc and condyle could be examined by means of MRI. The splint.therapy is, concering its effects on the TMJ, directly checkable through incoporation of the MRI.
