Dental prosthetics

Study patients wanted

  • The mandibular joints may be subject to degenerative changes which can be very painful in certain cases. Sufficient alleviation is not always possible with standard therapeutic options.

    Question
To what extent and for how long can a series of irradiations of the mandibular joints alleviate pain in mandibular joint osteoarthritis?

    Participation criteria
Painful osteoarthritis of one or both mandibular joints; patients ≥ 18 years; conventional therapy (dental guard, physiotherapy, analgesics) provides insufficient alleviation; regular follow-ups over 24 months possible

    Study information
Before the start of the study, we will check if you meet the participation criteria (see above). There will be a clinical analysis of your masticatory muscles, mandibular joints, and teeth.

    Procedure
If you are eligible for inclusion in the study, 3D scans of your cranium will be made before the irradiation therapy, followed by repeated irradiations over a two-weeks period in the irradiation therapy unit of the UKR.

    Status
Please get in touch if you're interested in participating. Guidance and an initial appointment are available via patient management (0941 944-11900) or e-mail prothetik@ukr.de. This is a multicentre study. You can also participate at the university clinical centres in Leipzig and Würzburg.
