Research Building D7

Donate and save lives – for the region and well beyond the borders of Bavaria

There are plans to construct Research Building D7 on a 2,000 m² plot within the grounds of Regensburg University Hospital. The building will comprise laboratories, office space and seminar rooms, in which clinicians, scientists and students can research advanced treatment methods while developing international partnerships. With your support, we can make significant progress towards achieving our vision!

Three separate departments – one common goal

One key feature of this project is how it brings together three medical disciplines under one roof. The planned research building will be a shared space for further developing the quality of care for adult patients and children with cardiac disorders and cancers, as well as rare diseases:

  • Regensburg Centre for Rare Diseases (ZSER)
  • Department of Paediatric Haematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation (PHOS)
  • Regensburg University Cardiac Centre (UHR)

Building D7 – A Space for Research and Teaching

A disease is considered to be rare if it affects no more than 5 in 10,000 people. Often, these patients need to visit a great many doctors before a correct diagnosis can be made. This motivated us to establish the ZSER in 2014. With this new research centre, we not only aim to expand healthcare provision for affected patients  but also bring together research and teaching under one roof. Staff will have space for research development, while the interdisciplinary approach will improve the quality of teaching offered to both undergraduate and doctoral students.

Prof. Dr. Mark Berneburg, Director ZSER

Cancer in childhood or adolescence is an especially distressing diagnosis. Many of these life-threatening diseases can only be effectively treated by stem cell transplantation. Huge progress has been made in this field of research in recent years. However, to further establish advanced cell and gene therapies with few side-effects for children and adolescents, we need to be able to draw on new clinical and research options – a goal that we will be able to achieve with this new research centre.

Prof. Dr. Selim Corbacioglu, Director PHOS

Every year, cardiovascular disease becomes more prevalent and is now the leading cause of death in Germany. Since 2016, cardiologists have been working together at UHR in a collaborative project that is unique within the region. To achieve lasting advances in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cardiac disease, we are dependent on a research centre that is oriented specifically towards these new challenges.

Prof. Dr. Lars Maier, Director UHR

Support our work!

It is an ambitious goal – but we can achieve it with your help! Help to shape the future of research at Regensburg with your donation – since only systematic, high-quality research will enable us to provide our patients with the state-of-the-art healthcare they deserve.
