National University Medicine Research Network into COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic presented situations that called for new strategies of action within a short space of time. The National University Medicine Research Network into COVID-19, or "Network University Medicine" (NUM), bundles and strengthens research activities aimed at addressing pandemic-related challenges. The research network is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and coordinated by Charité – Berlin University of Medicine and brings together all German university hospitals and other network partners to work on solutions for the best possible patient care in a pandemic. To this end, collaborative projects are carried out at the various university medical centre locations with a focus on immediate effects of support. One area of emphasis hospital-related and healthcare research, the results of which flow directly into care and crisis management in line with the translational approach. The aim is to ensure that developments in research and patient care, the evidence-based approach and the learning effects culminate in a coordinated pandemic response as well as a "pandemic preparedness".
