Anaesthesiology

Intensive care

Intensive care is teamwork. At the Regensburg University Hospital, the Clinic for Anaesthesiology in intensive care works closely with the departments of surgery, neurosurgery and cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery. Even non-intensive care units such as oral and maxillofacial surgery, ear, nose and throat medicine, ophthalmology and dermatology are supported by the Clinic for Anaesthesiology in all intensive care matters.

In particular, we provide care for neurosurgical patients (including high intracranial pressure and cerebral vasospasm), patients with multiple traumas, respiratory problems, ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome), sepsis and multi-organ failure, which are transferred in-house or from regional hospitals to us.

  • Unit 90 of the Regensburg University Hospital is an interdisciplinary intensive care unit with 28 regular beds. It is located in Building Section C1, 1stbasement level. On the three ward sections A, B and C, patients from the fields of visceral, accident and vascular surgery, anaesthesiology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, ear, nose and throat surgery, ophthalmology, neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery as well as patients from the X-ray and dermatology departments are managed predominantly.

    Our core competencies

Our core competency is the intensive care treatment of patients after liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation, polytrauma patients, and patients with lung failure (ARDS), sepsis or multi-organ failure.

The focus is on the treatment and management of intensive care patients. This includes surveillance with partly extensive invasive monitoring, differentiated ventilation using modern techniques, extracorporeal therapies such as dialysis, haemofiltration and lung replacement procedures, and the use of specific positioning techniques.
