Researchers: using data

Data Use and Access Committee (DUAC)

Implementing the goals of the Medical Informatics Initiative not only requires technical harmonisation but also a uniform set of conditions, established on a sound organisational and legal basis, which govern both data access and data usage. At national level, a working group within the MII’s National Steering Committee (NSG) has worked on drawing up a set of basic data-sharing principles and prepared a position paper for a uniform code of usage, which is itself based on the data access and usage code applicable to research at Regensburg.

The key principles of this national usage code have been taken into account when establishing the Data Use and Access Committee at MEDIZUKR, with additional detail and content being incorporated to properly account for local circumstances. The DUAC is responsible for reviewing the technical and substantive scope of usage requests, basing such reviews on the available votes of respective ethics advisory boards, as well as local expertise from data protection and legal experts, and the Ethics Committee. When making its decisions about approving usage requests, the DUAC also seeks consent from the data donor.

There are plans to provide further information about DUAC members, the local usage code and committee sessions (including submission dates) by the end of 2022.
