Hormonal and metabolic disorders

In endocrine surgery, we treat metabolic disorders, hormonal imbalances and diseases of the endocrine organs to the highest standard. Endocrine literally means ‘directed inward’.

You can contact us with any surgical problems relating to endocrine organs. We treat:

  • Thyroid diseases
  • Parathyroid gland disorders
  • Adrenal gland conditions
  • Neuroendocrine tumours
  • We employ state-of-the-art therapeutic methods and new technical innovations for the benefit of our patients. Developing innovative endoscopic procedures to treat almost all kinds of endocrine tumours is something that sets Regensburg University Hospital apart in Bavaria and across Germany. Collaboration between highly qualified interdisciplinary teams from a wide range of specialist areas at the hospital guarantees the best possible patient care with the highest level of expertise at the University Hospital.

  • The Clinic and Polyclinic for Surgery at the UKR has extensive experience in the treatment of all endocrine disorders. Every year, our highly qualified specialists perform approximately 300 thyroid operations, around 70 parathyroid operations, 50 adrenal gland operations and over 30 procedures on neuroendocrine tumours.

Particularly noteworthy is the development of minimally invasive surgical techniques (keyhole surgery), which are increasingly being used to treat benign thyroid disorders as well as most parathyroid conditions.

Minimally invasive surgery enables maximum effectiveness and freedom from pain. A special technique has also been established at the UKR that allows most adrenal tumours to be surgically removed using small, minimally invasive access routes. This guarantees you the highest level of experience and security when you place your trust in us.

  • Our hospital offers specialised consultations for patients with endocrine disorders of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands, and with neuroendocrine tumours. As part of this consultation, we perform innovative assessment diagnostic procedures such as contrast-enhanced ultrasound in cooperation with our in-house radiology and endocrinology departments in order to achieve the best possible preoperative assessment.
